The Franchise Opportunity

Each Bulk Barn store is built on a turn-key arrangement, including the purchase and installation of the standard Bulk Barn equipment package.

The total cost of a franchise, including an initial franchise fee, will vary according to size and location, and may range from $375,000 to $475,000* plus applicable taxes. Approximately one-third of the franchise cost must be unencumbered (cash or liquid assets). The remaining amount may be financed through various lending programs offered by the chartered banks.

Bulk Barn Foods Limited does not lend money nor guarantee the obligations of its franchisees in any way. Each franchisee candidate is personally responsible for securing financing, and will be personally liable for all obligations created by way of participation in the franchise.

What the Franchise Covers

The cost of a franchise includes the following:

An initial franchise fee, granting to the franchisee the right to operate a Bulk Barn franchise at the franchise location only, for the term of the Franchise Agreement (see below), and to use the trade-marks, trade names and systems in doing business.
All leaseholds, fixtures, equipment and signage.
Initial inventory of products and supplies.
A training program to be provided at one of the existing Bulk Barn stores, or as designated (franchisee to be responsible for paying all travel expenses such as travel, lodging and meals).
Pre-opening and opening assistance, as determined by the franchisor, to be provided during the initial stages of operation.
The use of all confidential Bulk Barn Manuals.
Ongoing support from the franchisor's Corporate Office personnel who have vast knowledge in the retail food business.

The Bulk Barn Premises

All locations are leased. Bulk Barn Foods Limited negotiates and secures premises upon which all Bulk Barn stores are built. The franchisee is responsible for paying all ongoing lease costs.

The Franchise Term

The term of the Franchise Agreement is equal to the initial term of the lease for the premises, which is usually ten (10) years. There is an optional franchise renewal period for the lesser of the term of the lease renewal and 10 years. The Franchise Agreement provides for the weekly payment of royalties and advertising fees, based on a percentage of sales.

The Selection Process

The selection of new Bulk Barn franchisees is a rigorous process, involving extensive interviews and approval. Not everyone who applies for a franchise will meet our stringent standards and criteria. Candidates must portray qualities such as pride in ownership, attention to detail, management skills, financial stability and personal commitment, all of which are critical in today's competitive marketplace.

Owning a Bulk Barn store requires a great amount of dedication and direct on-premises supervision (a minimum of 40 hours per week). This is not for everyone. However, for those individuals who devote the necessary efforts, and who follow the Bulk Barn established program and systems, this has proven to be an extremely rewarding and successful business venture.
